Wiki Waru / Week 8

WIKI Waru / WEEK 8

Another busy old week, here is everything you need to know... At this stage!

A couple of notices as we are coming closer to the end of the year:
  • Last week was our final Timatanga Assembly due to the events that the end of the year brings! This means there will be no more Timatanga assemblies this year.
  • Reading books, as the end of the year approaches, we will be wrapping up parts of our daily programme. You will notice next week there will be no reading books coming home, as we need to get these returned for the Christmas break, we ask that you have a good look at home for any readers that are hanging around the bookshelf so we can get these put away before the holidays.
  • The library is now closed for the year so that Loraine can start the annual stocktake, so if you find any library books at home please return these ASAP - but there will be no more issuing happening in or out of class time.

Athletics Day Information

Due to the bad weather we have had to use our postponement days, keep an eye on the
facebook page to hear more about when it will be (but a reminder of all the information you
need is below).

Dear Parents,

The Timatanga Athletics Day is planned for Wednesday 28th November from 9.30am until 12.30ish
(postponement either Thursday 29th or Friday 30th November). Supporters are warmly invited to attend.
The day will be split into two parts, where we will showcase and perform the athletic skills we have been
working on in our Sportstart PE sessions, which is part of our curriculum.
The first half of the day will run on a rotation, where classes will move around stations and the children
will perform the skills that form the basis of athletic events.  These stations will include activities based on
the disciplines of running, jumping and throwing.
Within each of these disciplines there will be Sportstart stations and more traditional stations.
Sportstart teaches the skills required to perform the athletic events that the students will participate in as
they move through the school.
The second half of the programme will be sprint races, which will be run in year group heats and finals.

Timetable of events:

9.30am: Rotation of athletic skills
10.30am: Morning tea
11.00am: Sprint races
12.30pm: Shared lunch with parents and supporters

A few points to note for the day:

  • For the sprint races after playtime, the children will run in year groups.

  • The children may wear sports shorts and their house colour shirt.  This will make it easier,
  • especially for the girls who usually wear dresses or longer culottes and will encourage the
  • school’s house spirit.

  • Sneakers should be worn if possible and shoes must be worn in the sprint races.

  • Morning tea must be eaten in the Junior area, away from the main field so we can set the gear
  • up for the sprint races.

  • Please ensure that a sunhat and polar fleece are at school for the day.

  • A drink bottle of water is a good idea.

  • Please apply sunscreen before school. We will have sunscreen available for anyone who needs
  • it (parents and teachers included).

  • Spectators for the sprint races are asked to stay in the marked areas along the cricket pitch side
  • of the track and avoid the finish line area. This helps us to finalise positions and make sure your
  • children make their way back to the correct supervised area after their race.

We are enjoying great success with our training throughout the term and we look forward to a great
community sports event on the day.

Kind regards,

Timatanga
