Wearable Arts and end of Term 3!

Kia ora whānau, We've done it! Back to Level one, and the holidays are almost here! What an increible term it's been and what a way to finish it with our impromtu Timatanga parade. It was just so lovely to see all of our parents again, and to have you share in the children's excitement and pride of their costumes! It was great to be able to chat with you all again, and to have you coming freely back into our school grounds- fingers crossed we will stay this way for a long time. As our term draws to an end, we would like to acknowledge the wonderful efforts of Hannah McCoy, who has been in our L space for the past five weeks. She now leaves us to continue her studies and we wish her well for her teaching career in the future. The children will really miss her, and we could not have survived without our two student teachers', throughout all our costume creativity madness! On this note, Sarah and myself just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to those Mums who came in and helped us during the past couple of weeks with the Wearable Arts . You were amazing- THANK YOU!!! YOu all had amazing ideas, and then were willing to take the ball and run with it. We so appreciated all your time and energy. We know lots of you took photos yesterday, and all of your children will receive individualised reports with photos attached in Week 1 of Term 4, but we wanted to give you all a wonderful reminder of how awesome your children looked. We are so proud of all their efforts, team work, patience and creativity. We know you will agree. Have a wonderful break everyone and see you in Term 4. Wendy, Sarah, Anna, Kelsey and Hannah

Week 9!

Kia ora whānau Wow- what a busy week it has been. It is just a hive of activity in the L space and the children are having so much fun creating their costumes for our Wearable Arts Performance. We also welcome back Kelsey Shiels who is a Post Graduate teaching student who will be with us for the next 7 weeks. The children have loved having her back in the class, and her creative skills have already been put to great use! The children have been absolutely outstanding in their creativity and also with their patience, as we juggle the needs of 49 students versus the number of teacher hands! We are very grateful to those parents who have come in and helped us out this week- you have made an amazing difference and it is so appreciated. We can't wait to share all the completed costumes with you. Dates to be aware of ** If you have not already sent in a black teeshirt and leggings for your childs costume- we would appreciate these asap. ** House Colour Day and Sauasage Sizzle- Tuesday 15 September On Tuesday next week (15th September) the TLC (Thorrington Leaders Club) have organised a house colour day. Children are welcome to come to school in their house colours and we will all eat together on the field , subject to weather! The T.L.C have organised a round of Tug of War contests for the children to be involved in . Plus we are offering an extra sausage sizzle to raise funds for our new playground developments in conjunction with our wonderful PTA. Unfortunately we won’t be able to have families join us for this event, as we are still in Level 2. While house colour t-shirts are not compulsory, these can be purchased from the office. The sausages can be ordered before school for $2 as per our normal Friday routine. Friday's sausage sizzle will operate as usual. ** Thursday. Library Day ** Please be aware that our classroom programmes will run differently next week due to our Wearable Arts focus. This means that your child may not necessarily bring home a reading book every day as they usually would. Have a great weekend Wendy, Sarah, Anna, Hannah and Kelsey

Week 8

 Kia ora whānau

Whew! Another busy week is almost over. We have been very productive this week, cutting, painting, drawing, planning and designing our Wearable Arts costumes. We are all keeping our fingers crossed for a move back to Level 1, so that we can welcome you all back into our spaces to see all the amazing work the children are doing.

Over the next two weeks, we will start dropping more of our regular timetables of Reading, Writing and Maths as we fully immerse ourselves into the preparation of our wearable arts. It is a really exciting, but potentially less structured time for our students, and we will be keeping a close eye on our remembering of manners and great Thorrington behaviours. Please do keep up with your great work at home supporting your child in regular practice of Reading  Writing and Maths- this helps your child immensely.

If you do have any spare time, and are willing to come in and help us  with our costume designs - we would love to hear from you. Our loose plan is  that we will be  in full creative mode each afternoon next week, and most of Thursday and Friday. Week 9 will depend on how far we are along by the end of Week 8!

*** PLEASE DO keep on sending your child's black teeshirt and leggings into school in a named bag as  soon as possible please. Also if your child is going to be away on holiday at any time over the next three weeks- could you please let your Home base teacher know.

Touch registration for Te Kura o Huriawa Thorrington - Term 4/2020

Term 4 sees the return of Touch for 2020. The season will last for 8 weeks starting Thursday 22nd October & wrapping up 10th December at Centennial Park.

Whilst Steve, our Sports Coordinator, will coordinate teams for this on behalf of Te Kura o Huriawa Thorrington, we are reliant on parents working together to help coach these teams.

The cost for the season will be approximately $25 per student. This will be payable in advance of the season starting. Failure to pay this will see your child unable to participate.

Each team will also require team shirts (those from previous seasons may maintain the one they already have). We are currently exploring the costing around players purchasing new ones for these. These are likely to be around $20 each.

Please ensure the below form is completed in full. If your child wishes to play in an existing team from 2019 (or term 1 2020) then you must state that team otherwise they may be allocated to a different team.

Age grades are as follows: Year 0-1/2, Year 3/4, Year 5/6, mixed and boys.

Please complete this form Wednesday 16th September to avoid missing out.
