Welcome to Term 2

Kia ora and Welcome back to Term 2 at Thorrington!

We hope you have all had a restful and enjoyable break. It's always such a great feeling not having to make school lunches, isn't it!

As you all are aware - we have some new faces in our Year Two team this term!  It is with great pleasure that we welcome Mrs. Andrea Swanson into the L3 space, (Mon- Thurs, with Phillippa Meek doing Fridays) and Mrs. Sarah Moore into the L1 area.
It was with sadness that we farewelled Amelia Innes and Harper Muir last term as well, but we know they will have a fantastic time at their new respective schools. We also welcome Sanna Riddle who has come all the way from Sweden to join us in L3. Please make her and her family feel welcome in our Thorrington community.

Winter Sausage Sizzle on Fridays.

Children will order in the morning in each Home Base. Sausages are still $2 and there are also gluten-free options available. Your child will be able to collect their sausage at lunchtime in their home base.

NO HATS IN Term 2. Winter Uniform please.

On rainy days, if your child does wear gumboots to school, please can you also send a pair of slippers for them to be able to wear within the Learning space. Much more comfy for them!

BUG CLUB

If you have a mobile device you can use a QR Scan App to link to the Bug Club website or you can click on the bug club icon down the side of the Year 2 Blog page, or click here.

Bug Club will have online reading books assigned to each student for their home reading. Once a week, instead of reading with a teacher students will have time to read on Bug Club in class. This can also be their home learning as the website can be accessed on any device from home also. Bug Club books will match reading levels as they are in class. Students have a free choice numerous titles through their Bug club account.

For more information click here for our initial blog post originally shared when we started the Bug Club program at Thorrington School.

LIBRARY DAY

A reminder that this is every Tuesday - children can drop their library folders off into the post box during the week or on Tuesdays post their books and leave their library bags on the top on the curved wooden desk.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us via email or in person.

 Kind regards

 Wendy, Andrea and Sarah

Farewell to Kendall (Mrs Skelton)

Thanks to all of our whānau who came in on Friday to say farewell to Kendall. We wish her and her family lots of love during this special time.

Welcome to Kathy (Mrs Phillips)

Kathy will be joining us for two weeks until the end of term. As many of you will know, Kathy is very familiar face to all of our Timatanga children and we are really pleased she is joining us for these two weeks.

Mufti Day Thursday - Gumboot Day

Gumbootup is a new initiative by New Zealander of the Year, Mike King, and I Am Hope. They’re aiming to raise $2million for kids who need some mental health support, and Thorrington School is holding a Mufti Day to contribute to this great cause. Tamariki are encouraged to bring a gold coin and wear gumboots and mufti this Thursday!

Family Photos to bring in

As part of our Inquiry we have been learning our Pepeha and would love children to bring in a photo of their whānau so we can add it to our wall display. We have been making some art work to match and are recording our Pepehas on the ipad.

Here is a great website to make your own pepeha! https://pepeha.nz/
