Term 2 Week 4

Term 2 Week 4

We are super lucky to have Dave Crosson joining Year 2 as a student teacher in L3, until week 8. Along with playing an awesome guitar he is really getting to know our children and they love working with him.

Thursday is Ayleen's last day at Thorrington School we wish her and her family all the best for their new adventure! We are also sad to farewell Jo CB this week and although she will be missed we wish her luck on her new teaching adventure!

We have become such experts at Daily 5 that we are now independent workers! This means that our training is finished and we get to choose what we want to do at what time.
Just look at how amazing we are in action:

Reminders:

Teacher Only Day - there is a Teacher Only Day on Friday 1st June (Queen's Birthday weekend) this means that the teachers will be working offsite and school is closed.
Please also note there will be no Timatanga Assembly in Week 5 due to this.

Please Help at the Trash Lab!

The Thorrington Trash Lab is a magical place for our kids to play at lunchtimes, but in order to open each day, we need  parent helpers.

Just one or two lunchtimes per term is all it takes.

What Trash Lab Helpers Do

Sign in at the office at 12.30pm, partially unload the shed so it's ready for play to start at 12.45pm, monitor the play until 1.20pm, then help the kids get the gear back into the shed by 1.30pm.

And that's it.  Preschoolers are welcome.

If you're willing to help, please email sharonmanson@hotmail.com

Thank you

Term 2 Week 3

Term 2 Week 3

Although it may have been wet this week that hasn't stopped the learning in the Year 2 Space!

We enjoyed having some parents visit us to see what we do in the 'Spaces in Action' time on Tuesday!
They got to see the hard work we get up to at Daily 5 time.

We have started our new Daily 3 in maths and also have had an introduction to Geometry. We have looked at how to say some shapes in Te Reo I wonder if any of us can teach someone at home what a Tapatoru, Tapawha and a Porohita is?

We were lucky enough to have Bobby Hira (Kaci's sister) in to teach us how to perform Maori dances to help us with our Dance Inquiry this term, here are some pictures of us in action:

Reminder:

Naming Coats - As the weather is getting colder and wetter we have seen more coats coming to school. Please ensure that these are named clearly so we can get them back to the right person at the end of the day.

Containers with Lids - sick of all those pesky containers with lids at home? Year 2 is looking for some storage containers to put small beads in. If you have any at home that you think will be suitable please bring them to school and give them to a teacher.

Looking Ahead - Next week we look forward to having Jo CB in on Tuesday, until lunch, as Carl is on ICT release and Wednesday to cover his Lead Teacher release. We also look forward to having Gillian Hardy in on Thursday until lunch to cover his CRT.

Term 2 Week 2

Term 2 Week 2

Surprise Dance Party

Last Thursday we had a surprise dance party, here are some pictures of us busting some moves (come and have a look at some more pictures in the Year 2 Space):

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Just like last year the structure for parent-teacher conferences mean that in Term 2 or 3 your child will have a parent-teacher conference. As we report on the anniversary cycle in Year 2, the timing of our conferences will be relative to the children's report.
So, in Term 2 and 3 when your child's report is published your child's HB teacher will be in touch to organise a 15 minute parent-teacher conference.

Reminder: Message from Chris Panther -
Invitation to see our "Spaces in Action"
On Tuesday 15 May, Carmel and I would like to invite you to a guided tour around our school. We are keen to share our positive stories with you, and give you a chance to see our Spaces in Action. We are planning to meet briefly at 11 am in the staffroom, and then tour throughout the whole school through the middle block of the day and conclude with questions just before lunch. Our Lead Teachers will also be available during this question and answer time. If you are keen to join us, can you please RSVP to Jude in the office via admin@thorrington.ac.nz

Welcome to Term 2!

Welcome back to Term 2!

We hope you had a fun and relaxing holiday and are all ready for term 2; what's the bet it goes just as fast as last term?

Already this term we have hit the ground running... We have had a super cool dance party, a whole school discovery and cross country!
We were so lucky with the beautiful weather we got to run in, thanks for everyone who came to support us!

Below are some action shots of the day:

Just a reminder that just like last term we ask all toys (including Beyblades) stay at home, in line with the school rule around toys; we have clarified this with the children also.

In case you missed it, here is a notice that came home earlier this week about sausage sizzle:
