Term 4 Week 8!

Timatanga Art Gallery Celebration - Thursday 7th December

This week Year 2 are finishing off their artwork and practicing their singing for their end of year celebration this Thursday. We are looking forward to our whanau coming together to celebrate a great year of learning at Thorrington School.

As with all events involving food for Timatanga, we respectfully ask that you provide nut free baking or that baking is nut free labelled. We have students in our team that can be put at very high risk from exposure to these foods.

Athletics Day success!

A big thanks to all supporters, organisers and participants on this great day.

NEARING THE END OF THE YEAR!

Items brought home

With two weeks left Year 2 students will be gradually bringing home pieces of art work, learning books and other items. We aim to do this over time to avoid heavy bags and overload of items in a short timeframe.

Reading books

We will not be sending reading books home in the last two weeks of term. This for a number of reasons including the nature of our end of year program which involves rehearsing for end of year events, completion of art work, small end of year projects and the general collection of resources required for the end of the year. Year 2 have worked hard all year and have had great success in their reading. The Bug Club online reading program will still be available.

Measurement - Weight

Exploring mass using standard and non-standard units. We have been finding out how many objects will equal 10g, 20g, 50g and more. Sometimes we can make predictions by using our knowledge of doubling. When counting we are using skip counting and then our times tables to help us check we have an accurate amount. Before we start we need to make sure our scales are balanced.

Welcome to Term 4!

Welcome to Term 4!

- Hats -

Thank you to everyone who has sent their child to school with a hat this week! In term 4 it is compulsory for students to wear hats when they are outside.

- Touch Team Opportunity -

A Prebbleton Yr 2 and 3 touch rugby team are desperate for some Year 2 or 3 girls to join their touch rugby team. Which plays in Prebbleton on Thursdays usually about 4pm. If any Yr 2 / 3 girls are interested, please let Nicky Reynolds know ASAP her email is: nicky.reynolds@thorrington.ac.nz

- Walking Wednesday -

It was wonderful to see all the people travelling to school by bikes, scooter, skateboard and walking. I wonder how many we will get next week?

Here are some photos of it in action:

Year 1 would like you to watch this and then join them on Wednesdays this term.

Week 10! Where did this term go?

Kia Ora whanau,

It is hard to believe that it is the end of the term already... Time flies when you are having fun!

Kendall Skelton is away on her Honeymoon this week and we have the lovely Gillian Hardy in for her with L3.

Just a couple of things you may want to know:

Library
Due to swimming all of Year 2 will be going to the library on Friday morning, feel free to bring books to be returned any day during the week.

Hats
Please remember that in Term 4 hats MUST be worn when the children are outside, so it maybe a good idea to dig these out over the holidays to have ready for Monday Week 1.

Shoes
Hopefully all that wet weather is behind us! Term 4 will be a normal term for shoes, meaning that they will be able to be worn inside so slippers will not be needed.

Assembly
Due to swimming there will be no Timatanga assembly today and Year 2 will not be able to attend the whole school assembly on Friday.

Inquiry
Here is a reminder of a notice that should have already received via email, earlier today:

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We have begun planning for our Term 4 Inquiry, which follows on from our Change Makers focus this term.
Next term, we will follow an Inquiry path with the context of Myths and Legends.
To ‘spark’ this Inquiry in Week 1 next term, we plan to begin with a viewing of the modern day classic of Disney’s “Moana”.
This movie is rated PG, so we are asking you for permission for your child to watch it with the team. We know that many of the children have already seen the movie (and love it) but we are confident that many connections to traditional myths and legends will be able to be illustrated and discussed if they watch it again. The movie has been described as “a welcome return to old fashioned story telling” which is in line with our aims for this Inquiry.
Please let your Home Base teacher know if you do not give permission (before the start of term 4) to watch “Moana” in Week 1, Term 4.
Thank you.
Kind regards,
Timatanga Home Base teachers

Swimming
As you will know we have been very busy at swimming these past two weeks, a huge thank you to all the parent helpers that have given up their time to either help us on the bus or at the pool it has been hugely appreciated!

Please remember on Friday that your child will need to bring along their PJ's as well as their togs.

Reminder of swimming times:
L1 will be leaving school at 12.30pm, Swimming at 1pm
L2 will be leaving school at 1pm, Swimming at 1.30pm
L3 will be leaving school at 1.30pm , Swimming at 2pm

Below are some photos of what we got up to incase you couldn't make it!

We hope you have a safe and relaxing holiday and look forward to seeing everyone in Term 4!
