Term 1 Week 10

Week 10


We have been doing Measurement as our strand focus this term. We have talked about estimating and different units of measure. 
This week we pretended to walk the plank and jump off the end! We then measured how far we jumped.

Just a reminder that school reopens on Wednesday 4th April. We hope you have a safe and enjoyable long weekend.

Reading

Due to the short week next week, we will be doing a special 'Art Attack' which will mean reading books will not come home.

Cross Country

Our Whole School Cross Country will take place at school on Thursday 12th April. Below is the timetable and information you need for the day.

Term 1 Week 9

Week 9

What a wonderful week it has been in the Year 2 Space this week. We have been busy doing our final IGNITE blocks which involved clay and sand creations, science experiments, playing vet clinics and making bones!

Paid Union Meeting

Thorrington's NZEI members attended a meeting on Tuesday afternoon to talk about our "It's Time, Kua tae te wā" campaign. Please feel free to talk to one of us about the Union's proposed changes for our collective agreement.

Mufti Day


Whānau Hui

We warmly welcome all families at Thorrington School to join us for our Term 1 Whānau Hui next week, on Wednesday 28th March. It starts at 5.30pm in the staffroom, and kai is provided for children and adults.

Easter Holidays

School will be closed from Friday 30th March until Tuesday 3rd April (inclusive). Please see your child's Homebase teacher if you have any queries. 

Beyblades

We have been doing some thinking about Beyblades this week after receiving some feedback and reflecting on some of the incidents occurring in the morning. We feel like they have a place in our Tuhura time but we want to have a think about how this might look. Until then, we are asking that Beyblades DO NOT come to school until we advise how we want to proceed. We appreciate your help with this. 

Dogs

There are not to be dogs on the school grounds between 8am and 4pm (even if being carried).

Term 1 Week 8

Week 8 Blog Post

It has been a busy week in the Year 2 Space. Our Cross Country training is well under way and we are continuing to talk about Being Brave. Today we had a couple of visitors for IGNITE! 

Paid Union Meetings 


Thorrington school union members will attend a meeting at Halswell school at 1.30 on the 20 March. As teachers are provided with time to travel to these meetings they will not be onsite from 12.30 on Tuesday 20 March. The school will remain open for those parents who are unable to pick their children up at 12.30 and we will have some support staff and a few non-union members who can oversee children in a few central spaces. 

Please let Carl, Lizzie or Kendall know if your child needs to stay at school for this afternoon.


Murray Gadd

Thorrington is very lucky to be hosting Murray Gadd at school this week. He will be visiting our classes and working on what new and exciting ways we could deliver writing programmes across the school. He will be in the Year 2 Space on Thursday morning, so there will be 3 relievers in the room from 9.00-10.30am.
 

Library Day


Due to the Union Meeting on Tuesday afternoon, our library day will be moved to Thursday this week.

Term 1 Week 7 2018

WEEK 7 BLOG POST 


We enjoyed a great week of Keeping Ourselves Safe with Constable Ross in Year 2. We hope you are having some great conversations related to the booklet that went home and the topics we covered in class. These include what to do when we get lost, good and bad secrets and how we feel if we receive unwanted attention.  


Cross Country

We are well into our Cross Country training, a reminder to have suitable shoes for running in ad we will try to run most days depending on weather. 

Our original date of Thursday 5th April has had to be revised - we will let you know ASAP when a new date has been confirmed.  


Bikathon


the PTA Bike-a-thon event is still open to late applicants - bring in your applications to the office early next week or simply email your registration to loutapper@hotmail.com with your name and your child's name and home base number. 

Assembly

Timatanga Assemblies this Friday will be hosted by L1. We look forward to seeing you there if you can make it.

Term 1 Week 6 2018

KOS - Keeping Ourselves Safe + Literacy Time 

We are looking forward to Constable Ross coming in this week to support us in the Keeping Ourselves Safe (KOS) program. Constable Ross will be in on Monday and Wednesday with the Year 2 groups. Hopefully you will have had a chance to go through the KOS booklet at home and have some great conversations with your children. There is no need to bring the booklet back to school. 


Netball for Year 1-3

Cross Country

We will start or Cross Country Training this week please make sure your child has suitable shoes to run - we will aim to train each day depending on the weather. 

Save the date for the Whole School Cross country event is Thursday 5th April (week of Easter Monday) 


Mr Scurr on Leadership release this week

Carl will be on his normal e-learning release on Tuesday morning and Leadership all day Wednesday. This week he will also be on a Middle Leadership course on the Thursday.

We are back to our normal routine of Timatanga Assemblies this Friday and will enjoy Year 1 students hosting this week. We look forward to seeing you there if you can make it.

Learning all the time - Aniko and Pippa following up on our Brave Inquiry learning, in their own time.  They have chatted and recorded their own thoughts on when we need to be brave - Well Done girls! 


Azaria and Madeleine have been building in Tuuhura time, nice team work girls! 


Bruno, Henry and Thomas have been building paper aeroplanes and this week decided they needed to have an airport for their planes to land on. Check out their fold away airport runways! Great creativity and problem solving team!
