Farewell to Kendall (Mrs Skelton)

This will be Kendall's last week before going on maternity leave. She will be dearly missed and we wish her and her family all the best as they look forward to their new arrival!

Tuakana Teina

In Week 6 we had some Year 6 students visit our space during Tuhuura Time to teach us some poi! This was a lovely moment when older taught younger and built a relationship. Thanks to Daisy, Charlotte and Caitlin for being so great with our Year 2s!

Tuakana/teina

Tuakana/teina refers to the relationship between an older (tuakana) person and a younger (teina) person and is specific to teaching and learning in the Māori context. Within teaching and learning contexts, this can take a variety of forms:
  • Peer to peer – teina teaches teina, tuakana teaches tuakana.
  • Younger to older – the teina has some skills in an area that the tuakana does not and is able to teach the tuakana.
  • Older to younger – the tuakana has the knowledge and content to pass on to the teina.
  • Able to less able – the learner may not be as able in an area, and someone more skilled can teach what is required.

Tuhūra Time

A time to play and learn - after weeks of trial and error we have finally constructed a roof!

Family Photos to bring in

As part of our Inquiry we have been learning our Pepeha and would love children to bring in a photo of their whānau so we can add it to our wall display. We have been making some art work to match and are recording our Pepehas on the ipad.

Here is a great website to make your own pepeha! https://pepeha.nz/

Bug Club

We have herd that some people have had trouble logging on to Bug Club. We believe we have fixed the problems but would love feedback if you cannot get on still. Below are instructions on how to do this. Please let us know if you cannot get on as we may need to change the settings it is a widespread problem.

Your child has got a Bug Club password and QR Code in their notebook. It will look like the image below.

If you have a mobile device you can use a QR Scan App to link to the Bug Club website or you can click on the bug club icon down the side of the Year 2 Blog page, or click here.

Bug Club will have online reading books assigned to each student for their home reading. Once a week, instead of reading with a teacher students will have time to read on Bug Club in class. This can also be their home learning as the website can be accessed on any device from home also. Bug Club books will match reading levels as they are in class. Students have a free choice numerous titles through their Bug club account.

Library Day Tuesday

A reminder that this is every Tuesday - children can drop their library folders off into the post box during the week or on Tuesdays post their books and leave their library bags on the top on the curved wooden desk.

Cross Country - Save the Date + Parent Helpers

This year's cross country will be held at school on Tuesday 9th April (postponement 11th April).

The event will run from (approx) 10.30am to 12.30pm. A notice detailing the races running order will be sent out shortly, but please save the dates in you diary.

We require some parent help on the day with marshalling duties around the course. Please send an email to Zoe Pullin sports@thorrington.ac.nz if you are able to help.
