Term 2 Week 8

Geometry Art Trip and Dancing Practice!

Timatanga had their Art Trip this week. Year 2 went on Tuesday to the Christchurch Art Gallery with lots of parents. The children had a great experience and got to take time to be guided around the gallery before settling into making and creating. It was such a pleasure to take in the wonder of the exhibition pieces and learn about how an artist creates and shares their work.  Our Year 2s asked some fantastic questions demonstrating how curios they are about what they saw. See below for some photos.

Dance Inquiry

We are also finishing off our dancing sessions ready to share with our buddy reader groups this Tuesday. We will show our dance and then have time to teach our dance moves to our buddies, telling them all about the skills needed to become great dancers. This is a great finish to our Term Inquiry!

Big Idea:

Dance fulfils different purposes.
Big Question:

Why do we dance?

Enduring Understandings / Lines of Inquiry:

What are the elements of dance?

Where do we see dance?

How might we express ourselves through dance?

St Margaret's Show Performance next week!

Year 2 are lucky enough to have been invited to attend the matinee performance of Alice! by the St Margaret's students on Monday of week 10 (July 2nd). A big thank you to Emily's mum, Megan Hurd, who has invited us. We have free tickets so all we have to cover is the cost of the bus journey.

A quick reminder to keep those permission forms coming in! Thank you to those parents that have put their names down for parent help. We will be limited this time due to seats available for the show and we will select based on 'first in'.

Paid Union Meeting (PUM) this Tuesday

Please inform us if your child needs to stay on Tuesday afternoon - click here for a link to the school newsletter with details

Thanks to Mr Crossan

This Term we have had the privilege of learning with Dave Crossan in the Year 2 space as a student teacher. His last day was on Friday and the children wished him a fond farewell with a song and many goodbye messages in a class card. Dave has had a very successful Student Placement here at Thorrington and both teachers and students have greatly benefited from his time here. We wish him well on the next part of his teaching journey, knowing he will continue to succeed. Thanks Dave!
