News For Week 5 Term 3!

NEWS FOR WEEK 5 TERM 3!

Literacy Program
For the rest of the term we will be running a slightly different literacy program based on our whole school professional development this year. By making these changes we are aiming to improve the effectiveness of the teaching and learning experiences for our students. We will spend time setting up this new system to run smoothly so during Week 5 your child will not be tested on any spelling words. Spelling words and Reading books will continue to go home and home learning can continue as normal. Spelling testing will resume in Week 6.

Spelling City Website
For house holds that have access to the internet and devices for children, you can click on this link and use the website to practice the spelling lists sent home. If you use the search feature to find Thorrington School there are spelling lists set up from which you can choose from. You will not need to log in. Once you find Thorrington School you can click on my name (Mr Scurr) and the lists will be there. We have been doing this in Year 2 so most children will know how to find the lists. Click here for link! There is also a free app for Apple devices.

New Library Day
Due to our new literacy [program our Library days will now be on a Tuesday for ALL Year 2 students. We will rotate students throughout the afternoon. Please ensure your child brings their books and Library Folder on this day.

Assembly:
L2 will be hosting Assembly this week
Time: 2.20pm
Date: Monday 7th August
Place: Year 2 Space

Calendar Art
We have completed our Calendar Art for this year - you can see the finished pieces in our Home Base Folders on display in the classroom.

Sausage Sizzle of Fridays - $2 per sausage to be handed in before school

Inquiry:
Our Inquiry this term is called Kahukura Change Makers

Big Idea: I am a citizen of the world and I can make a meaningful difference

Big Question:
Can one person change the world?

Enduring Understandings / Lines of Inquiry:

  • I am a citizen of the world, I can make a meaningful difference, I seek social justice.

  • Change can be brought about by peaceful means
  • People participate individually and collectively in response to community challenges and have consequences for communities and societies - past present and future.

In Week 4 we built on our thinking from our Change Maker Videos.

We started to make links to the 4Cs. We used QR Codes to find the videos and recorded our ideas in small groups.

We sorted out our ideas using a Venn Diagram.

We added our Graffiti Boards to our Learning Wall.

Come and check out our QR Codes before school - you can watch the movies on your phone using a free QR Code Reader App.
(here is one for Apple devices but there are many others out there)
